Visiting a museum is a unique experience, wrapped in unspoken rules and boundaries. As a guest, you’re expected to maintain a respectful distance from the artworks, to never touch them, and to stay behind that invisible line marked on the floor. If you happen to step too close to a painting, alarms might sound, or a watchful attendant will promptly remind you of the rules.
However, there exists a profession bestowed with the unique privilege of not just touching these artworks but intimately engaging with them: art restorers. As an art historian who has delved deep into the history of art restoration through my master’s thesis, I’ve been fascinated by the evolution of this profession. Now, as an aspiring art restorer myself, I am embarking on a journey that allows me to physically connect with art in a way most can only dream of.
I was delighted to be invited to share this passion with Koen Fillet and Sven Speybrouck during an interview for their program ‘De Interne Keuken’ at Radio 1!
